The main rule while writing a thesis is that it should be written according to university/College format to avoid rejections.

Thesis Structure

A thesis must include the following sections:

 

1. Preliminary Pages:

Title Page

Certificate from the Supervisor

Declaration by the Candidate

Plagiarism Report (ensuring less than the prescribed percentage, usually 10-20% but consult your university once)

Acknowledgments

Abstract (maximum 500 words)

Table of Contents

List of Figures, Tables, and Abbreviations

2. Main Body:

Chapter 1: Introduction

Objectives, hypotheses, and problem statements.

Chapter 2: Literature Review

Chapter 3: Research Methodology

Techniques, tools, and data sources.

Chapter 4+: Results, Discussions, and Analysis

Final Chapter: Conclusion and Recommendations

References/Bibliography:

Follow a standard citation style like APA, MLA, or Chicago.

Appendices: Supporting documents, if any.

 

3. Format Specifications

Language: English (or any language given by the institutions).

Paper Size: A4, white bond paper.

Margins: 1.5 inches on every side.

Font: Times New Roman.

Line Spacing: 1.5 lines (single spacing for footnotes).

Pagination: Bottom-center or top-right, starting from the first chapter.

 

4. Plagiarism Policy

UGC mandates follow anti-plagiarism norms. Universities often use software like Turnitin or URKUND.

Acceptable similarity : 10-20% (subject to university policies).

 

5. Submission

Number of copies: Typically 4-6 (depends upon university).

PDF format may also be required.

Carry all documents such as registration proof, plagiarism certificate, and supervisor’s recommendation.

 

6. Evaluation Process

Examiners: At least two external examiners will be there.

Viva-Voce: Public defense of the thesis with a panel of examiners.

Revision: If the thesis requires changes or revisions then suitable time will be given to the student.

 

7. Open Access

The thesis should be uploaded to the Shodhganga repository, managed by UGC, to get open access to research outputs.
